چکیده

A ddition o f alcohol oxidase to erythrocytes trea ted with ascorbic acid reverses the vitam in C effect, as expressed by the appearance of the sem idehydroascorbate signal, and the increase in spin concentration. The original erythrocyte electron spin resonance (ESR) signal is, how ever, never restored completely, as it is in the case if ascorbate oxidase is used. Additional interaction between the enzym e alcohol oxidase and haem oglobin iron m ust occur, since both of the iron ESR signals at g = 4.3 and g = 6 d isap p ear and the erythrocyte ESR spectrum at g ^ 2 is changed charac teristically. The spin concentration of the la tter spectrum increases again above a certain concentration o f alcohol oxidase.

On the possible involvement of ascorbic acid and copper proteins in leukemia. III. ESR investigations on the interaction between ascorbic acid and some transition metal ions.

The interaction between lyophilized samples of ascorbic acid and Cu2+, Fe3+ or Mn2+ has been investigated by means of ESR spectroscopy. All of the three transition metal ions form complexes with vitamin C, but only in the case of Cu2+ and Fe3+ the interaction results in a reduction of the metal ions. Cu2+ and ascorbic acid seem to form 2 : 1 complexes with an equilibrium constant of about K = 1...

On the possible involvement of ascorbic acid and copper proteins in leukemia. IV. ESR investigations on the interaction between ascorbic acid and some copper proteins.

The interaction between lyophilized samples of ascorbic acid and some copper proteins (ceruloplasmin, cytochrome-c-oxidase, ascorbate-oxidase) has been investigated by means of ESR spectroscopy. The spectra obtained are identical to the one obtained with leukemic blood. The consequences of this for the molecular events occurring in cancer are discussed. The model proposed can explain the experi...

On a possible mechanism of action of interferon.

The effect of interferon on the ESR spectra of erythrocytes treated with ascorbic acid has been investigated. This model system has been chosen since it represents identically the spectra obtained in cases with acute lymphatic leukemia. The data obtained show that small interferon concentrations increase, while larger concentrations decrease the effect produced by ascorbic acid resulting, final...

The influence of amino acid ligands and vitamin C on the reduction potential of Fe (III): polarographic and electron spin resonance investigations.

The pH dependence of Fe(III)-amino acid complexes has been studied polarographically and by means of ESR spectroscopy. It could be shown that, at least, two complexes exist: one with a low molecular weight, ESR detectable at acid pH, and one with a high molecular weight at alkaline pH, ESR non detectable. The half wave potential of Fe(III) is lowered by amino acid ligands. The redox interaction...

ESR investigations on lyophilized blood: mixtures with ascorbic acid.

The main contribution to ESR spectra of lyophilized tissues of plant or animal origin usually is given by an anisotropic singlet, which is known to be caused at least in the majority of cases by the adsorption of an ascorbyl radical. Model systems have been investigated in order to discuss experimental parameters, which influence these spectra qualitatively and quantitatively.
